I started building a knowledge base of liver disease issues about 3 years ago now. My site ‘Living With Liver Disease – The Secret Truth’ http://cnlc.us/ is now one of the most comprehensive research and support sites for this terrible disease.
The membership varies, people come and go but the Wikipedia, the heart of the site gets visitors from all around the world every day.
For such a specialist subject we get about 150 visitors per day, looking and hopefully finding information, help and support. Our search engine rankings are fantastic, thanks to the lovely Mirya who does such a wonderful job.
People who come to my site may be seriously ill, some possibly fatally. Most are scared and frightened. All of them need help in understanding what is happening to them, what they can do to help themselves and they also need to meet with others who understand what they are going through.
Liver disease can be as bad as any disease and worse than most. Most people don’t understand much about it except for misconceptions. Most doctors have very little knowledge about it, they have no cures.
The heart of the web site is a Wiki, or knowledge base of articles on all aspects of liver disease. These articles have been harvested from the web, written by myself or my members but only get posted to the Wiki because of their relevance and usefulness. I personally vet every single article and only those thought worthy get to be published on the site.
The Wiki is freely published. No membership of the site is required. It is there as a common, public resource. Membership is available on the site and the site holds forums for discussion and a private means for people to get to know others with similar circumstances. It is a place for discussion, sharing and support.
Because of the stigma associated with liver disease, rather like AIDS in the early days, Liver Disease is not normally a subject for serious discussion. It is almost a taboo subject and those who suffer it become the lepers in an unforgiving society.
